The III Moscow International Festival of Landscape Art, Horticulture and Nursery "Gardens and People" this year (August 19 - September 4, 2016) changed its site, and the Latvian VDNKh Square was allocated for it. The place is convenient for both landscape designers and visitors, although some gardens clearly lacked the backdrop of green space, and the pavilions and tents located behind fit into the panorama.

The theme of the 2016 competition projects is "Time in the Garden". These are landscape reflections on time - an eternal essence that is not subject to the will of people. Time cannot be seen, heard, touched … There is nothing eternal in the garden, barely blossoming with spring flowering, it changes rapidly, and now it amazes with autumn colors and harvest. Such a short summer! Berries and vegetables, bouquets of flowers bring an element of lively human participation to the exhibition gardens.

This year's landscape expositions can be noted with beautiful flower beds in the colors of a fading summer - with caps of paniculata hydrangea, bright geleniums and gailardia, echinacea and astilbe, liatrix and montbrecia, phlox and stethosis, sage and stonecrops, blood-eaters and cereal beetles, amuras. And the best symbol of the elusive time - flowing water, is used in various ways in many projects.

The ecological theme was also voiced in the works of landscape designers - the destruction of forests from wildfires, healthy nutrition, healthy plants. But, perhaps, the main idea of all the gardens presented is to call people to live communication - on a garden bench, by a reservoir, by a warm hearth, instead of a short contact on the Internet. After all, these are the most pleasant moments of inexorably running time, which can only be stopped in memory …

Garden "The black box garden" (Grand Prix of the festival)

By Matthew Childs (UK)

The Black Cube Garden is inspired by the famous painting by Kazimir Malevich, The Black Square, which became the manifesto of a new language of art, abandoning realism in favor of simplicity of form and color. Once in the garden, visitors go down the slope to Malevich's pavilion. On either side of them is an abstract scene representing a forest fire. The pavilion itself is decorated with burnt wood, and this part of the garden is a metaphor for the perception of the world by adults. The pavilion works like a time machine, from where visitors can gaze with the eyes of a child at the garden outside, where meadows are rampant.

Garden "Time in the Garden" (Gold Medal)

Authors: Dubnova Elena, Kvetkovskaya Olga (Studio "Architecture of Living Form")

Time is often called the "fourth" dimension of the garden. A garden is a living organism that undergoes changes over time. Each element of it lives, grows, changes its structure. The composition and structure of the garden changes with the seasons. The presented exposition is made in the form of arrays of various plants. Flowing in space, various structures of cotoneaster, reed grass, lawn go around "green" offices. Elements of the composition varying in height create a wave united by a common direction of movement. "Green" cabinets are saturated with decorative elements. The floor lamp and armchairs, wickets, in the clearly cut structure of the cotoneaster create cozy resting places. Stopping points of moments of time.

Garden "2010" (Gold medal)

Author: Dombrova Natalia, studio of the landscape "Neringa", Togliatti

Dedicated to the tragedy of 2010. Fires blazing in the pearl of the Zhiguli, the so-called Volga Switzerland. In one summer, 2.5 thousand hectares of relic forest were destroyed by fire. The destruction of an ecosystem is lightning fast, restoration will take many decades. Tragedy stops time. The concept of the garden is based on the landscape left over from the burnt forest. Dead, burnt trees, young shoots of forbs living in the ashes, timid shoots of a young forest. The tense red-yellow part of the garden is bounded by a black stripe symbolizing the trenches that cut off the fire in case of fire, and steps on a small island of surviving nature, where water, expressed through plants, is a barrier to the onset of fire. Tragedy is a terrible lesson for people. And only Time is able to heal all the wounds of Nature.

Garden "Artifact" (Silver medal)

Author: Oksana Khleborodova

The familiar comfort of civilization combined with the power and trepidation of the wild is the dream of a modern city dweller. The sharper the line, the brighter the feeling. But you are not the first who liked this corner: among the stones an ancient artifact is discovered - a sundial.

Garden "Braer. All in good time" (Bronze medal)

Authors: Anna Lozinskaya, Maria Krutova

There is a time for love and a time for war.

At least with time on "you", you take care of it.

There is a time for everything under Heaven

But we must make the choice ourselves every day.

In our fast-paced times, with the accelerated pace of life and constant employment, people mainly communicate in snatches: using social networks or on the long-awaited weekend. Therefore, we decided to set up a private place in the garden where people can communicate with each other in a pleasant environment. Such a place can be the "green office", which is hidden in the flowering thickets of a living labyrinth, but at the same time remains open on all four sides.

The hearth with a hot fire, which has been gathering families and friends around itself for a long time, has become the central element of the composition, uniting people and setting them up for live communication. The theme of the hearth fits perfectly with the word friendship. For example, the Hedgehog from a well-known and beloved cartoon is similar to a modern person: he wanders in the fog of his life and is very happy when he manages to meet a kindred spirit with whom you can sit by the fire.

The paving on the site is made of small-format tiles, which are embers and sparks scattering from the fire. Then the tiles go into paths with wide tiles that invite you to the garden.

The fog around the plants gives privacy to the place, mystery at dusk and comfort during the heat.

We are sure that having such a cozy place, people will surely find a place for gatherings, and, having gathered all together at the hearth, they will be happy to spend time with each other, communicate, exchange news and impressions, sing songs and just look at the fire, as they did. Hedgehog in the fog with his friends.

Garden "Time to Collect" (Bronze Medal)

Authors: Happy Olga Vasilievna, Goryainova Valeria Pavlovna

… Plant, so that later you can harvest the fruits, Let the apples and peaches and plums ripen:

Ripe, among the foliage they dazzle everywhere, Their bright colors transform the garden! …

(Jacques Delisle)

The time to collect is the period in life when we begin to take stock. "What you sow is what you reap," says a Russian proverb. “What you give is what you get,” says the Bible. At the end of summer, a wonderful time begins when the gardens are transformed and filled with special meaning. Fruit baskets, fragrant jam, tight ears of wheat around. Nature will generously reward everyone who blessed, watched and created …

The polygonal structure of the garden is the prototype of the Benard unit cell. Such a structure becomes the main source of order in the Universe, and the sequence of polygonal structures is the ability of organized matter to resist chaos. It allows our planet to exist in time without destruction …

Garden "Seasons" (Bronze Medal)

Authors: landscape architect Natalia Borisova and Evgeny Korneev, sculptor Alexandra Knyazeva

Changing seasons - what could be more natural and more beautiful, it is not for nothing that this theme is so often reflected in art.

December 2016 marks the 140th anniversary of the publication of the first collection of piano pieces "The Seasons" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This is a kind of musical diary of the composer, reflecting his character and experiences. The music reveals endless expanses and pictures of Russian nature, village life, Petersburg cityscapes and white nights.

Images, associations, emotions evoked by the music were reflected in the exhibition garden.

The dedication garden is our gratitude to the great composer.

Garden "Hut with a green roof" (Special Jury Prize for an art object)

Author: Olga Pyatakova

The idea of our garden comes from childhood. Summer, heat, thickets of grass and an ideal secluded spot, with which the warmest memories are connected: a hut. Who didn't build it? It was considered a special luck to get an old wooden window frame, then trim boards and plywood were sent to her company, and it turned out "the highest chic" - "architectural hut", which by some miracle stood for many years, delighting more than one generation of children. It was covered with warm, cozy moss, overgrown with weeds, over the years, more and more "dissolving" in the garden landscape.

These warm memories, an ideal image from childhood, formed the basis for the idea of our garden with a gazebo. An asymmetrical gazebo made of a stylized frame and a long sloping roof overgrown with sedum and sedum (an extensive type of roof gardening) promises to become a favorite place for new generations: you can play in it, gather the whole family for lunch, or you can just dream on the roof, putting your face to the sun …

Garden "Relax-Garden" (Special Jury Prize for an art object)

Author: Boganova Katerina

"No time!" - how often does a modern person say this phrase, running around on business with disheveled thoughts. At least sometimes you have to find time and HEAR YOURSELF. There is no time in the Relax-Garden, it will not work to run into it, the contemplation of water makes a person stop, this is a kind of meditation in which you can even think a little about the eternal.

In this garden, it is symbolic that plants are imprinted in solid matter (in ceramics and fabrics on chairs), offering to feel the passage of time.

Garden "Spiral of Time" (Special Jury Prize for an art object)

Author: Russu Evgeniya, Landscape company "Alveder", Samara. Welded sculpture "Boreets": blacksmith Sokolov Anatoly, "Workshop Chaos-Art". Illustrator: Zaslavskaya Anna

"If trees were handing out free Wi-Fi, we would plant them all over the planet, but they just make the oxygen we breathe."

Unknown author

The spiral of time, or the legend of Hyperborea

In ancient times, there were highly developed civilizations on Earth, the most prominent of which were Atlantis and Hyperborea. Under the influence of an external factor, Atlantis went under the water, and Hyperborea resisted. External influences led to a shift in the poles, which led to a sharp climate change. The science and culture of peoples living in conditions of cold and lack of sunlight continued to develop and form over millennia. But gradually the Earth cooled down, and all living things ceased to exist. The most advanced technologies of a powerful civilization on a planetary scale were powerless. Being at the highest level of spiritual development, it was decided to leave the Earth. Their souls ascended to other worlds, and lifeless bodies remained on their home planet.

The spiral of time made another turn, and after millions of years life began to return to Earth again, filling free space.

And the new civilization began the process of evolution."

Garden "After myself"

Author: Sorokina Anastasia Andreevna

City courtyard after a while. Concrete box houses, dark gray asphalt. What will we leave behind for the children? The dome of rusty metal is a symbol of human concern for nature since ancient times. Unpretentious plants grow inside it, aggressive, capable of spreading quickly. Most of them are not long-lived in order to give nature the opportunity to renew itself further, covering ever larger territories. A tree with twisted branches is trees in the city, tired of surviving, poisoned by the environment, in constant struggle with human activities. Everything that goes beyond the dome dries and dies, without care and maintenance.

Garden "Time is like water"

Authors: Chief architect of the garden - Shumilova Nina Yurievna, landscape designer of the garden - Borisova Milena Evgenievna, chief engineer of the garden - Semenov Dmitry

The concept of this garden is that life time, like water for the garden, are limited resources. Therefore, in our work we focus on maximum functionality, environmental friendliness and reasonable use of natural resources, including especially human resources. The form and design are as "simple" as possible - striving for correct geometric shapes and figures, pure colors, multi-level, the presence of water in several elements - an irrigation system, a fogging system, a decorative pond. Plants are selected according to the principle of maximum functionality, i.e. decorativeness plus one more function. For example + edible, medicinal, essential oil, etc.
