The time of the exhibition FlowersExpo / FlowerExpo-2015 is in the midst of the autumn planting season (September 8-11). Despite the obvious international difficulties, almost all the annual exhibitors again presented their new plants. Here we are, obsessed with plantomania, in a hurry to share with you what we saw.
Coniferous plants
Thuja western Mr. Bowling Ball syn. Bobazam is a dwarf form up to 60 cm high and 1 m wide. The crown is dense and dense, at first almost spherical, later slightly flattened. The needles are scaly, compressed, light green on young growths, later dark green, bronze by winter.
Thuja western Fire Chief is a sport from the popular Reingold variety. A spherical variety up to 1.5 m high. The needles are acicular, golden in spring, by autumn they acquire red shades.

Thuja western Thuja occidentalis Golden Anne is a new compact variety with a pyramidal crown and bright, golden needles throughout the growing season. Bred in Holland. Not prone to spring burns. It grows slowly, reaching 0.8 m by the age of 10, the maximum height is 2.5 m.
Thuja western Golden Rocket is a fast-growing variety, 5-10 m tall, with a dense conical crown and golden needles. Presumably derived from the famous Holmstrup variety. Zone 5b.

Thuja western Golden Smaragd blue. Janed Gold is a golden form derived from the popular Smaragd form in 1999 in Poland, but is rare on the market. Below it, at the age of 10 - up to 2 m, it retains its golden color throughout the growing season.
Thuja western Weisbunt is a variety with yellowish needles, a cone-shaped crown.

The pea cypress Chamaecyparis pisifera White Pygmy is a dwarf hemispherical variety reaching 45 cm in height and width. It grows slowly. It is very beautiful due to the white buds, which give the whole plant a white color. It is most pronounced not in the sun, but with a slight shade. Winter hardiness - up to -29 degrees.
Dull cypress Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear is another, no less interesting variety. 0.3-1 m in height, with vertically directed branches with slightly drooping tips. The needles are very dense due to close internodes, dark green. It grows very slowly, 1 cm per year. Also winter-hardy up to -29 degrees.

Blunt cypress Chamaecyparis obtusa Fernspray Gold is a luxurious plant with branches that really resemble a fern (the name translates as Golden Fern). The color of the needles is golden. Reaches a height of 3 m and a width of 1.5 m in ideal conditions (sunny and warm), grows slowly. According to literature data, winter-hardy up to -29 degrees, but may be lower.
Lawson's cypress Chamaecyparis lawsoniana Pearly Swirls is a novelty of 2013. A compact globular dwarf, beautiful thanks to the pearly white tips of the shoots that retain color throughout the season. Reaches a height of 90 cm, grows slowly, the annual growth is 3-5 cm. Winter-hardy up to -25 degrees, a plant for the southern regions.

Microbiota cross-pair Microbiota decussata Lucas - a variety with needle-shaped yellowish needles. There is little information about him yet. Most likely, the height will be less than that of the normal microbiota, and the winter hardiness is lower. It's worth trying it.
Subalpine fir Abies lasiocarpa Compacta is a dwarf variety bred in 1879 in the United States, and has only recently begun to appear in our country. Height - up to 3 m, annual growth - up to 5 cm. The crown is thick, wide, conical or pin-shaped. The needles are very beautiful, dense, not prickly, up to 3 cm in length, silvery-blue, with white stomatal stripes below, silvery when blooming. Cones before ripening are reddish, elongated-elliptical, protruding, up to 10 cm long and 4 cm wide, collected in several pieces. Refers to the winter hardiness zone 5a (up to -28 degrees), needs a protected place.

Juniper medium Chamaecyparis x media Pfitzeriana Coldfern is a sprawling shrub with golden needle-like needles. There is no data on winter hardiness, but it makes sense to test the plant, since usually junipers of the Pfitzeriana group winter well.

Deciduous trees and shrubs
Barberry of Thunberg Berberis thunbergii Golden Ruby syn. Goruzam is a very compact, 0.5 m tall and wide, slow growing cultivar with fine coral orange foliage. In the fall, a yellow border appears on the leaves, and later they turn completely yellow. Winter hardiness is high.
Barberry of Thunberg Pigmy Ruby syn. Pygruzam is a sophisticated novelty, rounded dense shrub up to 0.5 m in height and width. Beautiful without cropping. The leaves are small, shiny, throughout the growing season are bright, glowing, purple-ruby, in autumn carmine-red. Even the flowers of this variety are reddish, in racemose inflorescences, however, neither they nor the fruits of this variety have decorative value.

Barberry Thunberga Orange Sunrise is an attractive new product of 2015 of the Polish kurovsky kennel. Fast-growing shrub with vertically directed branches, up to 1.5 m in height. Rounded red leaves, bordered with a yellowish-green edge, resemble Golden Ring. The lower yellowish green leaves provide a great backdrop for the variegated upper ones. Young shoots and leaves with a yellowish tinge. The fruits are red, ripen in October. Belongs to winter hardiness zone 5b, needs a sheltered place.
Black elderberry Sambucus nigra Golden Tower is an openwork shrub up to 2 m tall, with yellowish-green leaves deeply cut into narrow lobes, especially bright when blooming. Winter hardiness up to -30 degrees.

Cherry Prunus Carmine Jewel is an ornamental and fruit variety of Canadian selection. Dwarf form 2-2.5 m tall. Leaves are oval or obovate, glossy, green, serrated along the edge, decorative. Blooms profusely with white and pink flowers. Self-pollinating variety. The fruits are large, about 4 g, purple-red in color, with dark pulp, high in sugars and pleasant sourness. Productivity - 4-8 kg per plant. Very hardy, up to -40 degrees. Suitable for fresh consumption and processing.
Cherry finely sawed Prunus cerrulata Royal Burgundy is a Japanese sakura with purple leaves and beautiful pink double flowers with fringed petals along the edge. The tree is 4-6 m tall. Flowering is short, about a week, but very effective. Fruiting is absent. Belongs to the 5th zone of winter hardiness, suitable for the southern regions.

Diervilla rivularis Honeybee is a new, yellow-leaved variety of Diervilla. The foliage retains its color throughout the growing season. Shrub up to 1 m in height and in width. For hedges, tree and shrub groups, container growing. Winter hardiness - up to -30 degrees.
Hybrid lilac Bloomerang Pink Perfume is an interesting new dwarf variety of lilac, bred in the Netherlands. The bush is compact in structure, up to 0.9-15 m high and often twice as wide. Densely leafy with small, dark green leaves. The buds are deep pink, bloom in June with lilac-pink, very fragrant flowers (as the name says), collected in inflorescences up to 10 cm long. A remarkable feature of the variety is the repeated, albeit less abundant, flowering after cutting off the faded inflorescences in the fall. The use of this variety is very diverse - on neutral soils in groups, mixborders, rocky gardens, on the shore of a reservoir (it is moderately demanding for moisture), for fragrant cutting. Another advantage is its high winter hardiness, zone 3a.

Viburnum phytocarpus Physocarpus opulifolius Andre is a dense, rounded shrub 1.5-2 m high and wide. The leaves are large, up to 10 cm long, pink-red when blooming, later bronze-red. The flowers are white with a pinkish tinge.
Little Angel is a spectacular new Dutch cultivar. Dwarf, densely branched, up to 0.5 m high. Leaves when blooming are bright orange-red, later burgundy-purple, small, graceful. The flowers are creamy white, with dense shields. Suitable for tree and shrub groups, curbs and even container growing.

Japanese pieris Pieris japonica Little Heath is a dwarf variegated variety. A dense evergreen shrub up to 50 cm high. Young shoots are pink, leaves are pink-red, later they become green with a white edging. The flowers are bell-shaped, white, with pinkish cups. Winter-hardy up to -29 degrees, but reaches such winter hardiness only with age, needs a protected warm place. A heather plant, rather for collectors, may require wintering in a container in a bright, cool room.
Skumpia leather Cotinus coggygria Lila - bred in 2011. A compact, wide-round shrub 1-1.5 m high, with dark purple leaves, which turn orange in autumn. Inflorescences are reddish yellow. Winter hardiness zone 5.

Hydrangea large-leaved Hydrangea macrophylla Miss Saori - was named plant of the year at the Chelsea Flower Show 2014. An outstanding variety with white double flowers with pink edging, forming hemispherical inflorescences. The attractiveness of the plant is also given by leaves that have a purple hue in spring and autumn. Plant height - up to 1 m. Winter hardiness zone 5. For our latitudes - a problem plant even with shelter.

Pointed pernettya (Pernettya mucronata) is an evergreen dioecious heather plant, which modern botanists often attribute to the genus Gaultria. Originally from Argentina and Chile, hardy up to -17 degrees. Compact, thorny plant with small glossy leaves. It blooms with white flowers. But the most spectacular in autumn, strewn with numerous fruits of white, pink or plum color. For the middle lane, this is a plant for temporary decoration, retaining decorativeness for a long time.

English roses by David Austin:
Darcey Bussel rose is a deep crimson rose that turns into lilac when flowering. The outer petals form a perfect ring around the center, gradually opening it up. The variety is named after the ballerina of the Royal Ballet. One of the finest red Austin roses.
- Rose Olivia Rose Austin - named after the daughter of David Austin. The flowers are about 9 cm in diameter, delicate pink in color, with a strong pleasant fruity aroma. One of the most disease resistant varieties.
- The Poet's Wife rose is a lovely rose with persistent yellow flowers. The rich aroma with hints of lemon gradually becomes sweeter. Low landscape rose.
- The Tranquility Rose is a perfectly shaped musky rose. At the beginning of flowering, it has a yellowish tint, gradually becomes pure white. Has a pleasant apple aroma. The nature of growth is vertical, with shoots slightly hanging at the top, almost without thorns, with light green foliage.
- Arto blueberry - about 1 m, with large berries with a pleasant sourness. An excellent variety for freezing.
- Blueberry Alvar - lush bushes, 80-100 cm tall, berries are large, sweet.
- Anthurium Andre Lilli is an unusual variety with abundant inflorescences, which have narrow, pointed blankets of greenish-pink color, which, like feathers, rise above the foliage.

Actinidia kolomikta Actinidia kolomikta Vitakola is a variety bred in the Czech Republic by Jan Kola. Yielding, has a unique feature - on one stalk there are 3 long berries.
Actinidia arguta Scarlet September Kiwi "Mirzan" - Polish variety, the earliest. The fruits ripen in August, up to 3.5 cm long and 2.5 cm wide, in the sun they have a red skin, the flesh is also red. Winter-hardy up to -28 degrees.
Actinidia arguta Bingo is a Polish cultivar with fruits weighing 8-14 g with a red blush. The berries are delicious, with a light pineapple aroma. Winter-hardy up to -28 degrees.

Polish nurseries also presented 3 winter-hardy varieties of tall blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum):
Aino blueberries - up to 70 cm high, with large berries of good taste.
Annuals
Petunia hybrid Grape Star is a compact variety with upward-directed shoots, forming a hemisphere. An interesting two-tone color - purple and white. Flowers and leaves are not large.
Hybrid petunia Pink Star is also a variety with small leaves and flowers, pink in color with dark central veins of petals. Like the previous variety, it is resistant to bad weather. Both propagate by cuttings.

Petunia Cascadias Rim Magenta - ampelous petunia with shoots up to 40 cm long, two-color flowers, dark purple with a cream edge. Differs in abundant flowering for 12 weeks, almost until frost.
Houseplants
At the stand of the Decorum company from the Netherlands, one could see a magnificent new variety of Japanese skimmy. Usually these plants are sold in buds, and here you could admire the richness of the fruits.
Japanese skimmia Skimmia japonica Pabella is a sport from the famous Rubella variety. Impressive with larger clusters of red fruits. When ripe, they will become intense red, clearly standing out against the background of dark green foliage.

Every year Anthura introduces several new varieties of potted anthurium Andre (Anthurium andreanum). This year it was the miniature red Bambino Red, the caramel reds slightly higher - Felicita and Solara. We would like to highlight two varieties:
