From 11 to 27 August 2017, the IV International Festival "Gardens and People" was held. The competitive gardens were located on the forest site in front of Pavilion No. 75 of VDNKh, where the Flowers - 2017 exhibition was held in parallel on August 23-25, in which the Association of Planting Material Producers (organizer of the Gardens and People festival) and a number of nurseries took part.

The number of participants in the exhibition of gardens this time exceeded three dozen, and the level of work was clearly higher than at the festivals of previous years. Competition for landscape designers - to reveal the theme "Contrasts in the garden." Visitors often chose the gardens, and not specially equipped places for recreation, everyone wanted to visit the garden and feel its comfort.

An innovation appeared in the competition program this year - the division into gardens of professionals (Large gardens, Small gardens, Art objects) and beginner gardens, for which a separate nomination was introduced.

The renowned international jury was chaired by the French landscape architect Michel Pena. He did not confine himself to judging, but held a master class "Games with contrasts", where together with the children he created several miniature landscapes.

The action "Wheelbarrow for pumping" aroused great interest - the creation of mini-gardens in garden wheelbarrows. Seven participants, among whom were groups of authors, implemented their unusual projects: "Underwater World", Garden "Shelter for cats", "Magic Forest" and other original ideas, which were implemented not only from the materials provided by the organizers, but also using homemade preparations. Voting in favor of the participants was carried out on Facebook.

The two parts of our garden - regular and landscape - are separated by a wall, a line between traditional and innovative, natural and man-made. The wall is a point of contact between two worlds: the classics of landscape architecture and the simplicity and romance of natural communities.

Sometimes it seems that the familiar landscape of the Middle Strip with its birch groves around us has always existed. The more acutely the encounter is perceived face to face with the prehistoric world, which also existed in this place, but many millions of years ago.

In this garden, an attempt is made to recreate and harmoniously combine two completely different worlds. But how can you do this? It was decided to use "Quote" as a means of artistic expression used in literature. In this project, a "quote" is an image of a prehistoric garden of lepidodendrons and sigillaria with the remains of an ancient fossil, enclosed in rigid boundaries. In this case, “quotes” are metal curbs that create rigid visual boundaries that separate the ancient forest from the birch grove we are used to. It is this exaggerated division that allows two contrast media to coexist harmoniously. The "quote" uses plants that, by their appearance, create the necessary image, or they have actually been preserved in the modern world since those ancient times.

The art object in the garden resembles the skeleton of a prehistoric lizard, which becomes a rather unusual place to rest. The powerful construction adds volume and harmoniously complements the mysterious image of the ancient forest.

The bolder the contrast in such a garden, the stronger its perception. I would like to believe that a person who sees the garden will think about how evolution has changed the appearance of our Earth. What is the reason for such pronounced contrasts, why does evolution change the face of the planet? And most importantly: is the nature familiar to us - is it progress or regression in evolution?

This is a charging garden that feeds the visitor with natural energy, including literally: solar panels are installed in the garden, where everyone can charge their gadgets.

The inspiration for the composition of the garden was the lightning that hit the top of the green hill and left its mark on it. Its outline is echoed in the garden by an installation made of polished steel - a metaphor for the power of nature and its enormous potential. Humanity has yet to learn how to use this potential effectively without harming the environment.

The garden is built on the energy of contrasts of shapes and textures: polished steel reflects sunlight, flexible branches of willows and grasses flow in the wind, clear edges of the installation coexist with rounded green slopes and a recreation area made of wood. The aromas of the aromatic plants used in the garden - sage, thyme, agastache, mint and oregano - soothe and tone up. In the evening, the garden lights up landscape lighting, which is also powered by solar panels.

The project was developed by the Gardini bureau as a compact renovation zone that will fit into the space of a city park, business center or private garden …

"Time for Change" is a garden that reflects the contrast and duality of human nature. The static composition at the entrance shows the “social person” where he lives within the framework of stereotypes. This is reflected in the meager colors and shapes, the correctness of which suggests an "artificial ideality", adjusted to the standard of society. A crooked mirror is a symbol of a distorted perception of a person's appearance, through the prism of the opinions of people around.

The real world of a person, as a rule, is hidden from prying eyes. Not everyone has the strength to open up. And external lightness, ease and "ideality" very often hide the deepest feelings, thoughts and memories under their cover.

The portal in the center of the composition is the door to the world of "real man". In the process of moving from one part of the garden to another, you can see the change of scenery: the social and social coldness is left behind, and in front of them calmness, harmony and security open their arms. In the process of immersion in this space, saturated colors, beauty and aesthetics of forms replace external static.

White and pink colors convey touching, romance and vulnerability of the soul. Dark colors represent past tragedies that no longer bother. Ornate forms convey an intricate flow of thoughts. The whole composition is multifaceted, like the true world of man. You can feel safe and secure in this place. On the meditation bench, you can always be alone with yourself. A hedge, like a fortress, will reliably hide from external influences. Now everything is real and the mirrors reflect the real beauty.

After walking through the garden, can you see yourself? Perhaps you will see something else?

Expressive garden based on Gustav Klimt's painting "The Kiss". Garden for two. The sensuality reflected in the painting flows like water to the surface in the garden. The exquisite color of the garden creates an extraordinary atmosphere for the perception of reality - this is a small world for meditation for two.

Spectacular techniques: water in two planes (vertical and horizontal), openwork lamps in the Art Nouveau style.

We took the idea of the garden from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, which takes place in a forest in Athens. In the heat, in the bright sun, trees cast harsh shadows. They sculpturally outline the features of the relief. The light limestone stone is covered with emerald cushions of fragrant herbs. And all this against the backdrop of blue hills in a bluish haze, which is caused by the fumes of eucalyptus.

The picture is very contrasting - dark corners, harsh shadows and bright lighting in the center. Until the eyes are accustomed to the darkness, a strange and mysterious life seems to be in the rustle of the forest. The boundaries of reality and fantasy are blurring. And was it not in this very clearing that the divine comedy was played out?

March and August are the beginning and end of the spring-summer period. Two poles, two opposites. They are contrasting in color, geometry, mood.

March is the morning of the year. A long-awaited ray of light. We are full of hopes, plans and inspiration, and we are ready to start life from scratch.

March is the first spill on a black thawed patch, a reflection of the blue sky in a spring puddle. Settled gray snow. The branches of the trees are dark and graphic. March is laconic, achromatic, but still positive - after all, spring and summer are ahead, and new expectations.

Life is accelerating, the whirlwind of affairs carries us … August comes imperceptibly. It is bright, multi-colored, with the smell of mowed grass, honey and ripe apples, but already with a touch of sadness, as with a touch of rust.

So the summer passed as if it had never happened.

It's warm outside. Only this is not enough.

(Arseny Tarkovsky)

In August, you especially sharply feel the impermanence of beauty and learn to love the beauty of impermanence, the changeability of nature and being.

And again you are waiting for March …

Moments always replace each other"

"Momenta Cuncta Novantur"

(Ovid P. Metamorphoses)

The contrast of fleetingness and beauty and its eternal rebirth is in the dandelion flower. The flower blooms, creating the joy of life, then blooms, its seeds give rise to a new one.

Opposites of natural and man-made landscapes, interacting, smoothly flow into each other, without striving for dominance, preserve harmony and integrity. The active comparison of the elements of the garden emphasizes its different spatial and temporal qualities.

The soft natural shape of the unmown hills with a loose tree structure contrasts with the clear lines of the lawn and the regular avenue of sheared willows. The unity of color is emphasized by the contrast of form and material: the natural silhouette of a willow and a crown in the form of a ball, green unmown and sheared grass, yellow dandelions and yellow balls.

The garden is full of semantic elements: a sculpture of an owl with raised wings, armchairs and a basket of willow twigs. The use of native flora has become a symbol of the preservation and protection of the surrounding ecosystem.

Immersion in endless associations is the main theme of the garden. The contrast of shapes, colors and light determines the composition, without limiting the perception of the given frames. And as a direction, only a ghostly hint is created … And a thought, an idea, a memory of what is dear to us, where we want to return again and again, arises.

For some, an art object may resemble a huge musical instrument, or maybe it is music itself?

White color symbolizes peace, freedom, lightness, sincerity and innocence. It connects all the existing colors of the spectrum and gives us the opportunity to know ourselves as one in all manifestations. No division into good and bad. In the embodiment of white-barked birches, this color already plays a special role. Its task is to attract and hold attention, create a sense of divine light, human consciousness, vibration of the immaterial world.

Our garden is a transition between heaven and earth, life and death, light and darkness. It brings back the memory of the infinity and timelessness of spiritual life. He reminds us that everything is in us, and there is a place for everything in the garden of our heart. Contrasts in our lives make us who we are.

An absurd, strange dream … A mixture of images and emotions. The state in which there is no logic, but there is fear, excitement, a feeling of unreality of what is happening. The night, which does not give rest, but takes away strength … To end this dream, you are ready to wake up, but the magic "Dreamcatcher" gets in the way of fears and absurdities, cuts them off and takes us into the world of calm, blissful sleep. The Dreamcatcher Garden is about the complex path of our imagination during different phases of sleep. Distortion of reality, surrealism in one part of the garden. And relaxation for all senses - in the other. "Garden-oxymoron", "garden-hyperbole". We decided to go against the rules: to combine the incompatible, to build contrasts into absolute. The color scheme of the two parts of the child is a reference to different phases of sleep: from inky blue and violet to predawn orange-pink tones. The set of plants in the first part is in places wild, strange and ridiculous combinations, designed to emphasize the chaos of the rapid phase of sleep: agaves and blackberries, jellyfish-like nivaki pines and spotted peaches. The weirdness will end when the viewer walks through our portal to the inner garden. Here, surrounded by echinacea, viburnum, honeysuckle and touching lilies, peace and tranquility reign.

“Destruction is still the strongest of human innate tendencies.

Max Beerbohm.

“Over time, trouble is replaced by joy, like a spoke in a wheel rim!

Bhasa.

Garden "Shock Wave" - a garden that demonstrates changes in the state of matter and spirit. The idea of creating a garden was born out of the destructive theme of the explosion. The physics of the shock wave determined all the planning and characteristic parts.

The garden should be read from left to right, in terms of meaning. The first part is the invasion of the shock wave into a state of calm and brutality. The wave throws up, squeezes and breaks everything in its path.

The second part, it is the stretch zone, the period of tears and repentance, is symbolized by water. She is characterized by emptiness and melancholy.

In the next part of the garden, regeneration and revitalization takes place. Gradually and inevitably, nature takes its toll. New plants appear, free and free. However, in the renewed atmosphere, the striving for the original regular forms is guessed.

The side of this raised garden is made of glass. In the opening slice of the earth, the theme of the garden is also read - a thick fertile layer in the shock wave mixes with the raised layers of the parent rock, and after the reservoir, among the sand, the vegetative layer begins to reappear and thicken.

Rhapsody is a piece written in a free, improvisational style. Rhapsody is characterized by the alternation of diverse episodes.

Crimson as a variety of red denotes crimson or tinted red. Another of the ancient designations is fagar - "beautiful".

The garden is like a "beautiful epic song" based on a combination of natural landscape forms with hand-made elements, but no less organic, because man is the most significant creation of nature and all his works are based on love for her!

The old Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang presents the concept of contrast and balance well. After all, the cosmos is based on two opposite principles, Yin and Yang: one cannot exist without the other, just as night cannot exist without a day. Each of the two elements contains the seed of its opposite. Every woman contains a part of a man, and every man contains a woman. Balance brings harmony to the world and the universe.

For Eastern culture, energy flows through people in two forces. The energy that emanates from the earth and provides food and support that rises upward is called Yin. The energy that comes from the sky, from the air, from the sun and gives heat - Yan …

French park style is a large area with regular plantings. For lovers of this style, we tried to create a miniature French garden. It will shelter you from the bustle of the neighbors with vertical landscaping, calm your eyes with simple geometric shapes, and allow you to find peace of mind and relax after a difficult day. If you are a lover of order in life and in nature, then the Harmony of Contrasts garden is undoubtedly your option.

In our garden, we used only 3 colors - white, green and purple, which emphasize the severity of the lines and harmoniously combine with each other.

The strict straight lines of the decorative filling emphasize the rounded topiary forms of plants and are succinctly combined with modern spherical pots.

The classic style is complemented by the Wall with vertical landscaping. It will increase the planting area and hide your garden from prying eyes. And you always have a set of herbs or a vertical strawberry meadow at hand.

The wall with vertical gardening pleases with easy maintenance thanks to automatic irrigation.

Designer balls and flowerpots fill the garden with sophistication and charm. Different colors, unique strength of materials, plus your imagination - and you are the owner of exclusive accents in a small park that revive the classic version of the regular style.

Our miniature French garden is a place for resting soul and body, it is a harmony of contrasts, textures, geometry, color, it is its own small and cozy world, carefully fenced off from the bustle and chaos.
