The famous international Plantarium exhibition, as usual, was held under the same roof as GROEN-Direkt. A beautiful entrance and new layout connected the two trade fairs, which once again presented the full range of practical solutions in the industry to international green business professionals. “Green suits everyone” - that was the slogan around which absolutely everything was concentrated at the exhibitions.

Press prize

This time, let's start with one of the annual prizes - the Press Prize. It is awarded by an international jury of journalists who work purposefully in the green business and are accredited at the exhibition. Any exhibitor from any country has the opportunity to present his product for a press award. The Press Prize is awarded in two categories:

garden, balcony and terrace plants,

  • concepts, i.e. a new or "different" approach to products and industry promotion.

Thirteen press nominees have been registered this year: eight in the Plants category and five in the Concepts category. The judging was attended by journalists from 17 countries, including Russia. In the category of plants, the favorite of the judges and the winner was the crimson or cercis Canadian "Carolina Sweetheart" (Sweet Carolina) from Joh. Stolwijk & Zn.

Plant novelties

And now - to the novelties among plants. As always, they were judged by a competent jury formed by the Royal Garden Society of Boscoop. And here the fashionable trend of "small", compact plants manifested itself.

The absolute winner of the exhibition was Clematis "Little Lemons" - a real breakthrough in the cultivation of clematis. It was chosen because of its truly extraordinary dwarf growth, long flowering period (mid-May to early September) and flowers that produce a shiny seed fluff after flowering that remains on the plant for several weeks. The stems of this clematis are 20-30 cm long, the foliage is feathery green. It blooms profusely with pale yellow flowers 2-3 cm in diameter, similar to drooping bells. It can be planted in curbs and pots, as well as hung in hanging baskets. Cutting group 3.

The plant remains really low, a round bush, blooms profusely with short blue inflorescences from June to September. It can of course be planted as a stand-alone plant in the garden, but its exceptional compact shape makes it ideal for small patios.
