FlowersExpo - 2019: An Overview Of New Products

FlowersExpo'2019 exhibition was held on September 10-12. The Dutch exposition this year was organized under the sign of chrysanthemum, which is now the main crop in the Dutch flower industry. Novelties of potted and large spider-like cut chrysanthemums are presented, floristic shows were dedicated to them.

Chrysanthemum (Vienna White and Vienna Pink)

Oriental flavor was felt at the unusual stand of succulents from Iran. Here you could buy your favorite plant, as well as watch the process of creating original compositions from succulents.

In addition to the vivid impressions of the abundance of flowers, this exhibition, as always, pleased not only with a wide representation of exhibitors, but also with many new plant products. It is to them, according to tradition, that we dedicate this report.

Chrysanthemum Korean small-flowered (Chrysanthemum multiflora) Skyfall is a chic potted chrysanthemum for garden decoration, forming a perfect ball in a pot. A mixture of colors is presented.

Choisia ternata (Choisya ternata) Goldfinger (Limo) - has long narrow golden yellow leaves. The flowers are white. Usually grown as an ornamental shrub (winter-hardy up to -18 degrees), but in our area amateurs grow choisia as a houseplant.

Hypericum, or rather, St. John's wort (Hypericum inodorum) Magical Beauty "Kolmbeau" is a pot variety resistant to lack of moisture. In summer it blooms with yellow flowers with many protruding stamens, and in autumn forms decorative pale pink berries. Height - 30 cm.

Thuja western (Thuja occidentalis) Wareana Lutescens - obtained from the Wareana variety, but lower and slow-growing, does not exceed 2.5 m. The crown is broad-conical, the needles are yellow-green.

Thuja occidentalis (Thuja occidentalis) Sunny Smaragd is a variation of Smaragd with golden-green needles. Young growths are yellow with orange tips, later more green. It grows rather quickly, reaching a height of 3 m.

Thuja occidentalis (Thuja occidentalis) Totem Smaragd is a very narrow-crowned form, does not exceed 40 cm in diameter. It resembles cypress in appearance. Reaches a height of 3.5 m. Winter hardiness leaves much to be desired - up to -20 ^o C. Convenient for attachment container culture, decoration of verandas and terraces.

Cross-pair microbiota (Microbiota decussata) Carnival - the variety has elegant, green needles with yellow tips. In autumn, the tips turn brown. It grows up to 50 cm in height and 1.5 m in width.

Juniper scaly (Juniperus squamata) Dream Joy is a sprawling juniper that grows up to 1 m wide and up to 50 cm high. It grows relatively slowly, by 10-15 cm per year, young growths have a yellow-green color, which then turns into gray-green. A non-aggressive groundcover for slides and small gardens.

Dull cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) Drath - the variety is named after the founder of the eponymous German nursery GJ Draht, where it was bred in the 60s. In adulthood, it reaches a height of 2-2.5 m. It attracts with emerald green needles, which acquire a bronze tint in winter. It grows very slowly, winter-hardy up to -28 degrees.

Berry yew (Taxus baccata) David - has a columnar multi-vertex crown. It grows more slowly than other varieties, rarely grows to 2 m, its width is twice as narrow. The needles are dark green, with a golden edging, bright. Does not bear fruit. Winter-hardy up to -28 degrees.

Robinia Anna Irena is a Polish variety bred by Stefan Wlodarczyk, presented for the first time this year. A powerful tree up to 10 m tall, with openwork leaves typical of robinia, but original two-color flowers, in which the boat is painted in a soft pink color, and the sail is in hot pink. After flowering in June, the plant is capable of re-flowering in September. Winter hardy up to -28 degrees.

Treelike hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens) Candylbelle Bubblegum is a plant with a rounded crown up to 1.3 m tall. It blooms for a long time with dense pink inflorescences on strong stems, which gradually turn white. Stems are strong, withstand large caps.

Thunberg barberry (Berberis thunbergii) Thunderbolt is a purple-leaved variety with purple leaves that show red tones in autumn. It grows slowly, does not exceed 1 m. Winter-hardy up to -23 degrees.

Cinquefoil (Potentilla fruticosa) Bailmeringue (Lemon Meringue) is a compact, slow-growing globular variety up to 60-80 cm in diameter. Differs in small foliage and semi-double lemon-yellow flowers. Very winter-hardy, up to -40 degrees.

Medicinal Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) Genolia is a Swiss variety best for hedges. The only columnar cherry laurel, up to 3 m high, less than 1 m wide. Leaves are light green in spring, later dark green. It blooms with fragrant white flowers. Winter hardiness up to -20 degrees.

Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica) Tico is distinguished by beautiful foliage with a bronze tint and reddish shoots. Dense plant up to 2.5 m in height and 1.5 m in width. Suitable for containers. Winter hardiness up to -23 degrees.

Viburnum tinus (Liisarose) is a dense evergreen shrub with ovoid glossy leaves, laying pink buds in autumn. Blooms in spring with pale pink flower shields, which gradually turn white. In autumn, clusters of blue-blue fruits are formed. Winter hardiness zone 8. This species is grown in a container with winter overexposure in a cool greenhouse.

Crenate holly (Ilex crenata) Caroline Upright. This species is native to the Far East, which is why it is often called the Japanese holly. In Great Britain, it is a favorite topiary plant for making balls. This variety is characterized by vertical growth, in an adult state does not exceed 1.5-2 m. Winter-hardy up to -28 degrees.

Clematis Rooguchi - belongs to the Integrifolia group. 2-2.5 m high, blooms from June to September with purple bell-shaped flowers with light edging along the edge of the petals. Completely pruned for winter (pruning group 3). Bred in Japan in 1990 by crossing C integrifolia x C reticulata. Very winter-hardy.

The five-leafed maiden grape (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) Kirigami is the first maiden grape variety with highly reduced deeply toothed leaves, bright red in autumn. Rises high on the support. Winter-hardy up to -28 degrees.

Actinidia arguta (Actinidia arguta) Chang Bai Giant is a dioecious variety with extremely large flattened green fruits 4-5 cm long, weighing up to 20 g, very tasty. The fruits ripen in October. Winter-hardy up to -23 degrees. Bred in China. The variety is female, requires the presence of a male plant for fruiting.

Actinidia arguta Domino is a new Polish variety with large spherical yellow-green fruits with a delicate reddish blush and sweet aromatic green pulp with a brownish-reddish tint. The fruits are quite large (10-14 g) and tasty, with a honey aroma, ripen in October. The variety is female. Winter-hardy up to -18 degrees.

Actinidia arguta Lucy is a Polish novelty with oblong green fruits with reddish flesh. Fruits are large, 7-14 g. Very tasty sweet and sour fruit. Ripens in September. Female variety, single specimens are self-fertile. An interspecific hybrid of actinidia arguta and purple.

Creeping insect (Ajuga reptans) Blueberry Muffin - 20 cm high, with small leaves, dark in spring and early summer. Winter hardiness up to -23 ° C.

Lungwort (P ulmonaria) Strimps on the Barbie is a semi-evergreen hybrid lungwort with spectacular white-spotted leaves and bright, unusual shrimp pink flowers. Hardy up to -28 degrees.

Penstemon Pentastic Red is a delightful large-flowered penstemon up to 18 cm tall and up to 15 cm wide. Blooms all summer. A perennial, but winter-hardy only up to zone 7a, so we can use it as a seasonal annual. Grown from cuttings and sold in spring.

Uncinia uncinata Everflame is a dense sedge native to New Zealand. Everflame has a bronze-red foliage with cherry stripes, derived from the Rubra variety, often referred to as uncinia red. It is an evergreen perennial, winter-hardy up to -10 degrees. In central Russia, it can be grown in containers with overexposure in the winter in a bright cool greenhouse.

Medicinal rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) Hishtil Perigord is a rosemary from Spain with an upright growth. The foliage is gray-green, the flowers are two-lipped, blue, appear in spring. Height up to 100 cm in a suitable climate. In our area it can be grown as a houseplant.

Medicinal sage (Salvia officinalis) Berggarten Veriegated - 25-50 cm high, Differs in variegated gray-green foliage with a cream border along the edge. In central Russia, it is grown in an annual culture, mother plants for cuttings are stored in cool conditions.

Highlander flavored or scented (Persicaria odorata) GrowFlow - this plant is also called Vietnamese coriander leaves for flavor, such as the present coriander. It is widely used in the culinary arts of Southeast Asia. Leaves and stems are eaten fresh in salads in moderation or sprinkled with chopped herbs. Variety up to 30 cm high. Our plant is not winter-hardy (zone 9), it can be grown only in a container or with planting in the ground for the summer.
