Irrigation is an essential lawn care job to maintain optimal water conditions for plant growth.
What are the basic rules for irrigation? As a rule, lawns are watered 2-3 times a week. Systematic watering is especially necessary in hot and dry weather. It is carried out in the morning or in the evening, and on very hot days (at daytime temperatures above +25 degrees) - in the morning and in the evening, but not in the very sun.
Watering should be abundant enough, but waterlogging should be avoided so that puddles do not form on the surface of the lawn. Watering must ensure the soil is soaked to a depth of 10 cm, since small irrigations that only wet the soil surface are not very effective.
The water should have a temperature from +15 to +25 degrees.; but not lower than +10 degrees, otherwise the watering effect will be practically zero.
Irrigation rates vary on soils with different textures, but are measured in the range from 10 to 20 liters. water per 1 m2.
It is best to pierce the turf before watering, especially on lawns with heavy clay soils. This can be done with a simple pitchfork. Pierce the sod to a depth of 10 cm.
