Video: American Garden In Natural Style
Recently, the idea of a "natural garden" has become more and more popular in America. The American version of such a garden usually consists of three zones. The first one is closely related to the house and is a paved area that, according to the observations of practical Americans, requires much less maintenance than a traditional lawn. This is a place for the whole family to relax and at the same time an open-air living room for receiving guests.
The second zone, which is adjacent to the paved area, is one or more flower beds, consisting of cereals and forbs. As a rule, these are plants of the local flora. The preference is given to perennial species that are planted in a solid carpet so that there is less hassle with weeding. Plants often grow not in separate clumps in several tiers, as in a classic mixborder, but in alternation. And to avoid the impression of crowding, cereals are planted between them. During the flowering of one species, the entire flower garden is painted in the corresponding color, which is then replaced by another. To achieve a continuous change in color, varieties and species are carefully selected for color and flowering time.
The area of natural flower beds is followed by the “area of natural surroundings”. It is formed by trees and shrubs of the local flora, planted in picturesque groups. The lower tier is formed by shade-tolerant plants growing under the forest canopy. Maintenance of this area of the garden is minimal and is usually limited to pruning dry branches and thinning out overgrown plants. In open areas, a meadow lawn is arranged, and the paths that lead to this zone of the garden are made of natural materials, or simply limited to paths trodden in the grass.
It is such a garden that is perhaps closest to the concept of "natural" or "ecological" garden, in which plants are collected not according to the principle of aesthetic harmony, but in accordance with ecological compatibility, which provides for common requirements for growing conditions.
