White is considered one of the classic colors of the garden palette. Do not be confused that there is too much of it in your garden. The most sophisticated and sophisticated designers love to work with white, creating amazingly elegant and beautiful compositions on its basis.

Visual effects

White color makes the garden festive and festive. The combination of white flowers and green foliage of various shades creates a feeling of coolness and freshness. The presence of white "illuminates" and makes the darkened corners of the garden "play", especially at dusk. Bright flowers against a white background become brighter, and blue, violet and blue acquire a special purity of sound. White looks harmoniously next to other colors and can serve as a smooth transition between contrasting color spots. In short, white has many advantages, but it must be used with skill.

For example, you should not plant light flowers on a white background: they will fade a lot, while plants with dark colored foliage and flowers will look somewhat gloomy. When creating the color palette of your garden, remember the golden rule: everything is fine, but in moderation.

Flowers for the white garden

What plants to choose when arranging a white flower bed or "lightening" certain areas of your garden? The list will turn out to be quite extensive, so I propose to limit ourselves to only perennial flowers.

In early spring, it will be decorated with snowdrops - galanthus, forest anemone, white-flowered primrose and crocus varieties, as well as all kinds of daffodils, the color of which is dominated by white. At the same time, white scaffolds bloom (white-flowered forms of two-leaved scaffold, Siberian, Tubergen). White flowers with a slight bluish tinge also adorn another early flowering bulbous plant - Pushkinia proleskidnaya. Many white varieties and tulips. Moreover, selecting varieties belonging to different groups, you can extend the flowering period of tulips from 1-2 weeks to 1-1.5 months. Among the simple early tulips, it is worth mentioning the variety "Diana" with white goblet flowers. In the Moscow region, this variety blooms in the third decade of April. A little later, the flowers of an early double tulip of the Schonoord variety bloom. The variety "Concerto" of Foster's tulip is magnificent, blooming in central Russia in late April - early May. The first half of May is the time of flowering of luxurious Triumph tulips, among which there are varieties with white flowers - Kansas, White Swallow, etc. And the parade of tulips is completed by varieties belonging to the group of simple late, lily-colored and fringed: "Alabaster" (Alabaster), "White triumphator" (White Triumphator) and "Swan Wings" (Swan Wings). They usually bloom in the second half of May. The green-flowered tulip of the Green Spot variety, which blooms at about the same time, also looks spectacular; its color is also dominated by white, accentuated by green stripes on the outside of the petals. The first half of May is the time of flowering of luxurious Triumph tulips, among which there are varieties with white flowers - Kansas, White Swallow, etc. And the parade of tulips ends with varieties belonging to the group of simple late, lily-colored and fringed: "Alabaster" (Alabaster), "White triumphator" (White Triumphator) and "Swan Wings" (Swan Wings). The end of May - the beginning of June is the time of the exuberant flowering of the styloid phlox, which creates a continuous flowering carpet, under which no leaves are visible. Varieties of phlox subulate vary greatly in color, but among them there is one that is completely white. At about the same time with the styloid phlox, daisy, lily of the valley, the white-flowered form of the dicentra are magnificent, different types of poultry farms and the summer white flower - not a very common bulbous plant with long - up to 30 cm - leaves and flowers, similar to Galanthus flowers, bloom with the styloid phlox.

In June, peonies and Siberian irises, which also have white varieties, begin to bloom. In the same month, meadowsweet, Volzhanka and, of course, chamomile and bells bloom (white-flowered forms are found in Carpathian, lactic-flowered, crowded, middle and a number of other species).

Midsummer - July - is completely devoted to the king and two queens of the garden: delphinium, rose and lilies.

Although delphinium is primarily appreciated for its piercingly clean cold tones, there is also a white color in its palette.

Of the white roses, the hybrid tea variety Polar star, holder of an honorary diploma from the English Royal Society of Rose Growers, looks especially beautiful. For a long time this variety was considered the best of the modern white varieties of hybrid tea roses, but recently other worthy contenders for this title have appeared, for example, the Silver anniversary variety, bred in 1995. One of the most popular white floribunda roses at present is the Iceberg rose, which amazes with its abundance and continuity of flowering. Also worthy of attention is the Many happy returns variety, which has won many awards in a short time. Rosehips also have white-flowered varieties, in particular, the wrinkled rose. This rose blooms in June, and then continues to bloom all summer, although not very abundantly.

There are many white varieties and lilies, which some growers consider the rival of the rose in the fight for the title of "queen of the garden". First of all, we are talking about varieties belonging to the groups of Asiatic hybrids, Tubular lilies and Oriental hybrids. All of them differ in terms of flowering and the degree of winter hardiness. The most winter-hardy Asians, which bloom in the middle lane in July (some varieties can bloom even earlier). A little later - in July - August - Tubular lilies and Oriental hybrids bloom, which are considered less winter-hardy and in especially severe winters can freeze out without shelter.

At about the same time with Tubular Lilies and Oriental hybrids, Astilba Arends blooms, a little earlier - Chinese and Japanese astilbe. Snow-white, sometimes with a creamy shade, the inflorescences of this plant look amazingly impressive against the background of carved leaves.

At the end of summer, white-flowered varieties of phlox paniculata and shrub asters will create a white range in your garden. Chrysanthemums with white flowers are also very good. In the middle lane in the open field, only varieties belonging to the group of so-called Korean chrysanthemums winter. In the south of Russia and in greenhouses, another snow-white beauty is often grown - Indian chrysanthemum, with luxurious lush flowers.

Well, and of course, do not forget about dahlias and gladioli, which are so popular in Russia, in the palette of which white is widely represented. The earliest varieties of these plants bloom in the middle of summer, the later ones bloom almost until the very frost.

Thus, with the right choice of plants, your "white" garden can become a garden of continuous flowering.
