The small town of Lahti is located in southern Finland, on Lake Vesijärvi. Lahti is considered to be the gateway to Lake Finland. The waterway stretching from Lake Vesijärvi provides an opportunity to get to Central Finland.

In the passenger port of Lahti, on the territory of which the Sibelius Congress Hall is located, there is a unique Park of Wooden Architecture.

The Lahti region amazes with the splendor of its landscapes. The world famous sports center has been built here, where ski championships have been held since 1923, attracting thousands of spectators. In summer, hikers and bikers enjoy the beauty of parks and reserves. Recreation trails lead through mountains and hills, to lakes and rivers.

We wanted to see the nature of Southern Finland for ourselves. The Allegro high-speed train brought us early in the morning, we checked into a hotel, took a map and went to the city.

We started our acquaintance with the passenger harbor of Lake Vesijärvi. Not far from here there is a small lake Pikku with a pier for anglers, decorated with a musical fountain and sculptures of flying swallows. The Pikku Park and Pond was established on the former estate of August Fellman in the 1950s. This is a significant green recreation area for the city.

The park is famous for its trees, there are about 40 varieties of them. We were especially surprised by the purple-leaved birches. A musical fountain, the largest in Scandinavia, was built on the Pikku pond in 1997, according to the project of the Lahti Energia company. We loved this small and well-kept lake!

From Lake Pikku, along a trail illuminated in the evening along the Kariniemi Hill, you find yourself in the Lana Sculpture Park (territory of 20 hectares), showing the works of the Finnish sculptor, Professor Olavi Lana, installed in 1992 - twelve large sculptures.

We were surprised by the unusual, fantastic landscape of Lana Park. Reflecting the spirit of nature, the sculptures are installed surrounded by a forest that emphasizes their natural origin, and paths have been laid so that tourists can see them closer. In summer, the sculptures are covered with foliage, and in winter - with snow, their color always matches natural materials.

A tree nursery, Arboretum, is located around the Lanu sculpture park, 2 km from the city center, on Kariniemi hill, and not far from the passenger port. It is home to many plant species typical of the Southern Finland area. These are willows, oaks, brooms, pines, spruces, birches with dark red leaves, maples and lindens. Also presented are lilies of the valley, kupen, primroses and ground cover plants, mosses. Arboretum consists of protected areas and a recreation area. There is a beautiful rose garden not far from Lanu Park. But, unfortunately, during our visit to the park, the roses were not blooming yet. However, even without them, we got great pleasure from this trip, from the beauty of local landscapes with lakes, emphasized by man-made stone sculptures.
