Video: "Winged" Flower Garden Or Flower Bed For Butterflies - A Fashionable Ecological Trend Of The Garden

A special flower bed for butterflies, bumblebees and bees can become a real hit of your garden and a clear example of a fashionable ecological trend in flower beds.
A decorative house for butterflies, bees and bumblebees or a large plant, for example, such as David's buddley, which is also called a butterfly bush, can become an original and somewhat unexpected center of the composition that unites all the components of your "winged" flower garden.
The house is usually installed on a pole, the height of which is determined in accordance with the growth of the other participants in the composition in such a way that it rises slightly above them. The composition of such a flower garden can include both plants rich in nectar and pollen, and "fodder crops", which will allow you to observe the development of the most striking interesting caterpillars.

And don't be afraid of all the caterpillars! Elegant variegated (light green with black stripes with orange dots) caterpillars of the swallowtail butterfly, which like plants from the umbrella family, are a traditional observation object in such a flower bed, will be interesting for both children and adults! These caterpillars behave quite neatly and do not significantly harm the plantings of cultivated plants. If they suddenly decide to try to move to your garden on the beds with carrots and dill, transplant them to the ubiquitous ditch - swallows like it no less!
For a butterfly flower bed, you need to choose plants that are especially fond of winged beauties: plants from the Asteraceae family with large inflorescences-baskets, on which they not only feed, but also bask in the sun (sunflower, rudbeckia, echinacea, zinnia, telekia, buzulnik, elecampane, cosmeya, chamomile). Here you can also plant plants with small flowers, collected in a variety of inflorescences (umbrellas, shields, panicles, brushes and curls) - steeple, Turkish carnation, goldenrod, oregano, sage, forget-me-nots. All of them will serve as a convenient landing site, a bed and a place for communication, allowing insects to save energy in search of new flowers. But double flowers, devoid of nectaries and anthers, are completely useless for butterflies, despite their strong aroma.
With the arrival of spring, the very first butterflies - lemongrass and peacock-eyes - will be attracted to your garden by chionodoxes, white flowers, scillas, primroses, hyacinths. Bumblebees and bees will give preference to foxgloves, cucumber grass (borago), cornflowers, asparagus, hyssop and thyme.
When arranging such a guest house for little winged guests, do not lose sight of the fact that it must be in the sun and away from open windows.
