The works in Port Lligat and Pubol became the preparatory stage for the creation of the largest work on display in the open air - the theater-museum in Figueres. By the artist's own definition, his museum can be attributed to a work of art of the "ready-made" direction. He tries to exclude the utilitarian function of the museum, leaving only its aesthetic component. The main idea is to convey the meaning of the artist's work, his special outlook on life. “The museum reproduces the general structure of Salvador Dali's work, projects his inner world, outlines the artistic trajectory and life path, seen from the standpoint of surrealism and through the eyes of the author himself” [1].

The exhibition of the artist's works begins with the facade of the building and the adjacent territory. The building, which is today the hallmark of the museum, or "Tower of Galatea" as Dali called it, is decorated with mannequins, eggs and pottery shaped like Catalan bread.

The terracotta façade has become part of a large surrealistic object and an exhibition area at the same time. Sculptures and works of arts and crafts are also located on the facade and roof of the main museum building. They create a unique image of the museum, about which the artist spoke like this: “I want my museum to be a monolith, a labyrinth, a huge surrealistic object” [2]. According to the artist's idea, acquaintance with the museum should begin with the viewer on the way to the building. Therefore, we can say with all confidence that the first exhibition area of ​​the large exposition of the museum is located on the Gala Salvador Dali Square.

The tiles on the pavement converge in beams towards the museum, defining the compositional center of the exposition. In this open-air space, Dali has symbols in which the artist's ideas are hidden, signs of respect for those individuals who played an important role in his development as a creator. The monument to the Catalan philosophers Francesc Pujols [3] and Ramon Lulu [4] is located in front of the entrance to the museum, next to the Church of St. Peter, in which the artist was baptized. Three sculptures by the French painter Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier (1815 - 1891) are located in the square adjacent to the museum. Car tires stacked on top of each other serve as a pedestal for these works. The exposition is complemented by installations of the hydrogen atom, which are placed on stone bowls. The facade overlooking this square is decorated with an installation by Dali in the form of a giant head with a TV in its forehead.and here is an installation by Wolf Vostel [5] "Obelisk of Television". Dali acts in this case as an exhibition artist who brings to life the concept of his own worldview. In open-air spaces, Dali gives the viewer the opportunity to prepare for the theatrical action that awaits him in the museum.

The exposition outside the museum flows smoothly into the exhibition space inside the building. One of the most spectacular is the exposition presented in the courtyard garden on the site of the parterre of the former municipal theater. Installations and objects are shown in the open air against the background of the walls of the old building, which are at the same time an independent canvas for placing various works of art. Mannequins are displayed in a series of window openings, interspersed with beams charred in a fire in 1937, grotesque monsters, “Arts and Crafts” bas-reliefs made for the 1900 Paris World Exhibition and other sculptural elements. The center of the exposition is a vertical installation with a Cadillac - "Rainy Taxi", created for the World Exhibition of Surrealism in Paris in 1938,also on display at the Dream of Venus Pavilion at the 1939 New York World's Fair.

The works presented in the garden have an active expositional influence on the viewer. When a coin is put into the machine, the installation comes to life - rain floods the car, penetrating inside, an umbrella opens up above, the wipers start working. In addition, all objects of the installation are allowed to be touched. The interactive form of the presented exposition of the museum corresponds to the declared concept of the museum-theater, where every visitor is an accomplice of the artistic action. The exhibition space is designed in such a way that it combines elements of different nature, for example, the old stone walls of the former theater are adjacent to a dome made of glass and metal structures, which is the latest in its construction qualities [6]. All this creates a special atmosphere of an unreal space.And the location of the open-air exhibition adds new meanings to the arrangement of the light-color environment.

The organizers of the museum offer visitors both day and night visits, which significantly affects the perception, enhancing the emotional environment of the exhibition and enhancing its drama. A patio filled with bright natural light with a blue cloudless sky instead of a ceiling has a different effect on the viewer than the mysterious twilight of the night, the illumination of art objects and the starry black sky. The intensity of light, weather conditions, air temperature are equal participants in the artistic process in this exhibition. Raindrops, a boat and stones from Cape Cap Creus, already encountered in Port Lligat, ivy-covered walls, real street lamps designed by Hector Guimard - everything is aimed at maximizing the merging of the interior of the museum with the outside. In addition, the museum plays the favorite music of the artist of such composers,like Richard Wagner and Georges Bizet.
