Mazholan Park

Located in Blankfort in the suburb of Bordeaux, Majolan Park is a wonderful creation of landscape designers, architects, engineers, craftsmen and artists of the late 19th century.

The land and the castle belonged to the wealthy banker Jean Auguste Pigano. One legend attributes the creation of the park to his exorbitant ambitions. The park was supposed to reflect the full splendor of his heritage and, in the long term, overshadow the gardens and parks of Paris. Another says that the park was supposed to calm the sick daughter of a rich but unhappy father. Anyway, the banker went bankrupt, the park fell into disrepair, and the land was sold to some farmer. In 1975, the park was acquired by the city, and in the following years several restorations were carried out. It is now open to visitors (except Tuesday). The entrance is free.

The park was created over 10 years from 1870 to 1880 by the landscape architect Le Breton in the Baroque style on the land that was then a swamp. 20 hectares of land were cleared by hand, and 150,000 m ^{3 of} land were hand-picked to create a 4-hectare lake.
