In addition to getting to know the exhibition, a press tour was held for our group of European journalists, one of the points of which was a visit to the world famous Giardini di Porta Nuova park in Milan. This modern complex was built in the area between Garibaldi Station and Republic Square. This is the location of the Milanese skyscrapers, here is one of the tallest buildings in Italy - the tower of the headquarters of the UniCredit bank with a height of 231 m.

The adjacent 10 hectare park was recently completed. It is based on the project “La biblioteca degli alberi” (Library of Trees), which won a special competition in 2004. Authorship of the park belongs to the Studio Giorgetta companies by the local architect Franco Georgette and INSIDE OUTSIDE by the Dutch architect Petra Blais, in collaboration with Pete Udolph and Irma Boom. The tree library is a kind of modern version of the botanical garden, based on the idea of botanical and environmental education of the population.

The entire territory of the park is lined with straight lines of paths, creating cells, some of which are turfed, while the rest are planted with shrubs, grasses and other Udolphian perennials of the prairie type. In addition, there are separate circular zones (play, sports, meditation …) with ring monoplantings of trees of different types. There are about 20 of them in total, and each has its own species of trees, here you can see birches, poplars, ash trees, hornbeams, apple trees, cedars, maples, pears, liquidamber, ginkgo …

The names of species and varieties are indicated right there, in the paving of paths, which helps visitors to get acquainted with the flora of the park. The construction of the park complex cost about 15 million euros. Of course, at the end of winter, it does not make such a vivid impression as can be expected at the end of summer, when the plantings of perennials are in full force or in the fall, when the tree rings turn yellow and turn light. Nevertheless, even now, when the planting structure conceived by the authors is clearly visible, the park looks very attractive.

A bright complementary accent of the entire complex is the 2 neighboring buildings, which probably everyone who is associated with the green industry knows about. These are two Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) towers - residential buildings with a height of 111 and 77 meters, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti (architects Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra) and commissioned in 2014.

On each floor of these expensive houses, on wide loggias, more than 900 species of trees and shrubs grow (on a total area of about 9000 sq. M.). According to scientists' calculations, in terms of the total environmental effect, this approximately corresponds to five times the area occupied by plantings on a flat earth's surface.

Such innovative vertical planting leads to the formation of an intracity ecosystem, where different plant cultivars contribute to the enrichment of the environment with avifauna species and pollinating insects. Regular care of the plants on the loggias is carried out by a special team of specialist dendrologists. The project was carried out under the Milan greenery, environmental restoration and biodiversity conservation program.
