Cut flowers do not last as long, and certainly not as long as we would like. One of the ways to prolong their life in a vase is to choose the right vase itself, or rather, the material from which it is made. Today you can find a huge number of containers for cut flowers on sale. A wide variety of shapes, colors, sizes, and most importantly - materials of vases, flowerpots, jugs for bouquets can significantly complicate your choice. What material should you give preference to? Let's take a closer look at the most common ones:

Glass flower vases

glass is the most common, familiar and time-tested material from which containers for cut flowers are made; due to its chemical inertness, glass does not enter into chemical reactions with water and flower food, moreover, it is easy and simple to clean, and has durability;

ceramics - glazed ceramics are relatively neutral to the possible processes occurring in water with flowers, however, in the absence of it or the presence of cracks in the glazed coating, microorganisms begin to develop rapidly;

crystal - new crystal is very close in its properties to glass, but "experienced" vases may have pores in which microorganisms can be located, in addition, the crystal fades over time and loses its shine, which worsens the appearance of the bouquet in it; when using containers made of old crystal to accommodate cut flowers, it is better to put another container inside them - plastic;

plastic - is a relatively neutral material, however, due to a certain softness of this compound, numerous scratches and damages are easily formed on it, contributing to the difficult-to-remove contamination of the vessel and deterioration of its appearance;

metal - easily interacts with acidic compounds, usually contained in special dressings for cut flowers, which leads to the release of metal ions, which are absorbed by the water in the vessel and poison the fresh flowers; it is possible to use metal containers for cut flowers only by attaching another container inside them - a plastic one.

If there is a need to put flowers in a wooden vessel made of rattan or made of natural stone, then it is necessary to use a mandatory insert from a plastic container, and also remember that cut flowers need not only water, but also light for normal existence in a vase, but, therefore, it is impossible to keep flowers in opaque vessels for a long time.
